NOVEMBER MEETING - HANDS-ON KUMIHIMO with Hinke Schroen and Phyllis Murray

Learn the basic form of Kumihimo braiding. We will make a braid attached to a key ring with ¼” ribbons.

Materials: 6” Kumihimo disk
4 different colors of ¼” ribbon
Scissors
Sharp needle
Embroidery floss in one of the colors of your ribbons
Optional 2 oz. fishing weights or film canister filled with 3- pennies

Hinke will bring extra ribbons to share and the key rings. Phyllis will show us some of her much more complicated braids of Kumihimo and wonderful books about this ancient technique.

OFF THE SHELF PARTY

Plan on coming to our holiday get-together, the Off the Shelf party, at Hinke Schroen’s house. It will be Monday, December 4, 6:00 p.m.and will start with a covered dish dinner. Bring any dish you like to share.

To participate in the Off the Shelf gift exchange, weave or spin something wonderful, wrap it up, and bring it with you. We will have the gift exchange after dinner. If you participated in the Brown Bag yarn exchange at the September meeting, be sure to use that yarn as a part of your project.

Welcome!

The Dallas Handweavers and Spinners Guild is dedicated to promoting the art of weaving and the craft of fiber work through education, member activities and mutual support. The Guild promotes fellowship among members with bi-monthly meetings, educational workshops and community demonstrations. The DHSG biennial juried show gives each member an opportunity to show off their latest treasures. We invite you to join us and experience the camaraderie of our members and the interesting topics at one of our general meetings.

Guild members meet odd-numbered months (January, March, May, July, September and November), usually on the first Saturday at 9:30 am, at The Point, Center for Arts and Education on the campus of the CC Young Memorial Home, located at 4829 West Lawther Drive, in East Dallas near White Lake. We enjoy friendships, old and new, and learn from speakers on a wide range of subjects and areas of interest to our members. Each meeting presents a different topic, many times a hands-on topic, and each year our program chairperson tempts members to experiment with a new range of ideas to explore.

If you currently live in North Texas, or plan to visit our area, please join us at one of our regular meetings, or sign up for one of our workshops or special events. For more details, contact us!
