BECOMING A MEMBER
The Dallas Handweavers and Spinners Guild (DHSG) is an incorporated, not-for-profit organization whose purpose is to promote and encourage interest in the fiber arts, especially those related to handweaving and handspinning.
Founded in 1972, the DHSG boasts a large and active membership within North Texas. Members, numbering approximately 100, represent a wide variety of interests and talents:
- traditional pattern weaving
- contemporary and ethnic woven clothing and accessories
- tapestry weaving
- off-loom and other innovative weaving techniques
- handspinning
- dying of yarns with natural vegetable and chemical dyes
- basketry and fiber sculpture
Members have access to eight monthly programs on a wide range of topics, workshops led by nationally known instructors, yearly study groups that explore weaving in depth, the Guild’s library of book on all types of fiber related topics, and equipment owned by DHSG for use and rental by members. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the bi-annual Juried Show that highlights the best works and creations of the Guild’s members.
DHSG provides an opportunity to network with accomplished individuals in various disciplines. DHSG offers much to anyone interested in weaving, spinning or related fiber crafts.
